OBS AMD Encoder Settings
Written by the ProjectOBS Editorial Team · Published and reviewed: September 25, 2026
Configure AMD hardware encoding for stable Windows recording and streaming.
Recommended starting point
Start with the platform bitrate limit, a two-second keyframe interval, and a quality preset that leaves rendering headroom.
Before changing settings
- Update OBS Studio and the relevant Windows graphics or audio driver.
- Duplicate the current OBS profile so the working configuration remains available.
- Use a representative scene and change one variable at a time.
Step-by-step test
- Open OBS Statistics and reset its counters.
- Reproduce the busiest part of the real recording or stream.
- Run the test for at least ten minutes.
- Check rendering lag, encoding lag, dropped frames, audio meters, and the saved output.
- Record the setting and result before making another change.
How to verify the result
Run a ten-minute motion test and inspect both OBS statistics and the finished recording.
Common mistakes
- Copying settings designed for different hardware or a different streaming platform.
- Testing only a static scene instead of the most demanding content.
- Changing resolution, frame rate, encoder, and bitrate simultaneously.
- Ignoring the OBS log and Statistics window.
